I received my B.Sc. degree from the Systems & Biomedical Engineering Department at Cairo University, Egypt, in 2008. In 2010 I joined the School of Communication & Information Technology in Nile University, Egypt, where I completed my M.Sc. thesis titled "Fast Localization of the Optic Disc in Retinal Images using Projection of Image Features".
I joined the Delft Bioinformatics Lab in October 2010 as a PhD student. I'm currently working on analyzing spatially mapped gene expression data of the mammalian brain available from the ALLEN Institute for Brain Science. I am interested in analyzing the spatio-temporal co-expression relationships of genes involved in neuropsychiatric disorders (autism) across brain development. My work also involves investigation of the relationship between the functional and structural brain connectivity and the gene expression patterns across the brain.
My work is carried out partly at the Division of Image Processing (LKEB) at Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC), Leiden. This includes the analysis of Manganese-Enhanced MRI of the mouse brain to determine brain regions which are sensitive in migraine mouse models.
